This article makes some really valid points. She says that the show made you care about someone young and beautiful with super powers, and what a task that was for Sarah Michelle Gellar. I never would have thought of that, but it's totally right.
I'm also really glad that the author brought up Buffy's feminist legacy. A strong, assertive female protagonist was something that decade really needed, and I think we could use one now as well. It's my understanding that Buffy as a character and narrative is studied in some feminist theory classes.
While this show is never particularly scary, it still appeals to horror fans because of the paranormal aspect. There are werewolves, demons, monsters, ghouls, and just a copious amount of blood.
